Medicare Part B covers many of the medical services you use on a regular basis. This is the part of Medicare that helps with everyday healthcare needs outside of hospital stays.
Medicare Part B Helps Cover:
Doctor and specialist visits
Outpatient care and procedures
Preventive services and screenings, such as annual wellness visits
Lab tests, imaging, and diagnostic services
Mental health services
Durable medical equipment like walkers, wheelchairs, or oxygen
When Part B May Not Cover Care:
Services that aren’t medically necessary (i.e. cosmetic procedures)
Visits with providers who don’t accept Medicare assignment
Services another insurance is supposed to pay for first (i.e. employer health insurance)
Routine dental, vision, or hearing services (oftentimes covered by Medicare Advantage plans)
Important things to know about Part B:
Part B has a monthly premium set each year by Medicare ($202.90 for 2026)
Most services include a deductible and coinsurance
Many preventive services are covered at no cost when Medicare guidelines are followed
Seeing providers who accept Medicare assignment can help limit out-of-pocket costs
Understanding how Part B works is important because it often works together with other coverage like Medicare Advantage or Medigap. Your SGIA Benefit Consultant can help you understand your Part B costs and ensure your healthcare needs are covered.
