To start the year, let’s revisit some basic information about your coverage. Understanding the basics ensures you get the most out of your benefits and feel more confident when reviewing your plan with your SGIA Benefit Consultant throughout the year.
What is Medicare?
Medicare is a federal health insurance program that helps cover healthcare costs for:
People age 65 and older
People under 65 with certain disabilities
People of any age with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or ALS
It is designed to support you throughout retirement and ensure you have access to essential medical care, hospital services, and prescription medications.
What Medicare Does for You
Helps pay for hospital stays, doctor visits, preventive care, and more
Protects your finances from high medical expenses
Gives you coverage options through Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage
And so much more
What is a Medigap Plan
It’s also important to know that Medicare has “gaps” in coverage. Some people choose additional coverage later, such as a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan. These plans can help manage those costs.
When and how you do this matters, which we’ll cover in future posts. Subscribe to our weekly Blog for more information on your Medicare coverage.
